34 Assam rifles organised 7 days Mountain Trekking and Guiding Course

Ganderbal:- With an aim to provide accessible and practical Mountain Trekker and Guide training for the youth of the valley, Wussan Battalion( 34 Assam rifles) in collaboration with Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering, Gulmarg is organising 7 days Mountain trekking and Guiding Course for the local youth of the valley at Gund, Ganderbal.
Two instructors from the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering are training 15 students at Gund and Sonamarg locations. At the end of the course, they will be given a Mountain Guide Qualified Course Certificate by Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering, Gulmarg.

During the Day- 7 i.e the last day of the Mountain Guide Course, physical endurance test, written test, viva and practical tests were conducted. The 7 days course will provide an opportunity to the local youth to acquire Mountain Guide training and will help them to become tourist guides, which will enable them to earn thier livelihood by being employed as tourist guides at famous great lakes trek and other trekking places in the valley.

This initiative undertaken by the Army has been widely appreciated by the local youth of the area as it would help them to get being employed as Tourist Guide at tourist places like Sonamarg. These kind of courses will go a long way to provide them with livelihood.
