Pahalgam, April 15:(CNI) The pristine Lidder River, once a jewel in Pahalgam’s crown, has sadly morphed into a garbage dump, leaving visitors aghast and frustrated.
According to reports, the riverbanks are overflowing with plastic waste, decomposing food remains, and other assorted trash, creating an eyesore and an environmental hazard.
Dismayed tourists who flocked to Pahalgam to experience its natural beauty have expressed their outrage at the state of the river.
Many visitors complained that the stench emanating from the garbage piles is unbearable, significantly detracting from their holiday experience.
Frustrated by the apparent inaction of local authorities, some tourists have taken to social media to voice their concerns. They are urging higher authorities to intervene and take immediate steps to clean up the river and prevent further pollution.
However, reports suggest that the Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA), the government body responsible for the town’s upkeep, has remained unresponsive to the mounting complaints.
The lack of action from the PDA has only served to heighten the anger and disappointment of visitors and environmentalists alike.
The Pahalgam valley, famed for its meadows, rivers, and breathtaking scenery, has long been a popular tourist destination in Kashmir. The sight of the once-pristine Lidder River choked with garbage serves as a stark reminder of the pressing need for stricter waste management practices and environmental protection measures.(CNI)
