Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday clarified that his government has no role in implementing the new criminal laws in Jammu and Kashmir but emphasized the need to educate people about the legal changes.
Speaking after a review meeting led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Omar said, “Implementation is not the responsibility of the elected government, but we must ensure people are well-informed about these laws.”
The high-level meeting, attended by LG Manoj Sinha and senior officials, reviewed the progress of new laws replacing the IPC, CrPC, and Evidence Act.
Omar noted that while J&K has made significant progress, certain challenges remain.
Dismissing speculation about security discussions in the meeting, Omar said, “I had already raised security concerns in my earlier meeting with the Home Minister in Parliament.”
On being excluded from security reviews, he said, “That’s a decision I can’t comment on.”
Addressing Rahul Gandhi’s opposition to the CEC appointment, he remarked, “The opposition has the right to dissent, and the matter is currently before the Supreme Court.” (CNI)
