Delhi–The Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC), under the leadership of its President Kundan Kashmiri, firmly asserts that Kashmiri Pandits will no longer tolerate deception, betrayal, and hollow promises by politicians, political parties, and their agents—especially those who played a direct or indirect role in their persecution and forced exodus. The so-called mainstream political parties of Kashmir, including the National Conference, the People’s Democratic Party, and the Congress, have historically been complicit in the communalization of Kashmir, eroding the roots of Kashmiri Pandits in their homeland and systematically working to weaken them politically, economically, and socially. Their consistent efforts to erase the indigenous Pandit community from the sociopolitical landscape of Kashmir cannot be overlooked or forgiven.
These Kashmir-centric political parties were, for most of the time, hand in glove with separatist forces, either directly or indirectly acting as the voice of the Hurriyat and other anti-India elements. Now, sensing the changing situation in Kashmir and the presence of a strong government at the Centre, they are artificially modifying their strategy to stay politically relevant. However, their past actions and betrayals cannot be washed away by mere political opportunism.
Successive governments, both at the state and central levels, have deliberately avoided acknowledging the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits, a term that accurately defines the horrors inflicted upon this community. This deliberate evasion is nothing but a calculated move to escape the responsibility of delivering justice and accountability.
Even the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has long used the Kashmiri Pandit issue in its political campaigns, has failed to introduce any meaningful legal or political framework to recognize, investigate, and punish those responsible for these atrocities. The reluctance to take this crucial step has only emboldened the perpetrators while leaving the Pandit community abandoned in exile, unheard, unrepresented, and politically sidelined.
There was once a belief that the Modi-led government would act decisively to correct the historical injustices committed against Kashmiri Pandits. However, with each passing year, it has become evident that despite its nationalist stance, the BJP, too, continues to engage with the very same political forces that either justified or ignored the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. The party’s failure to challenge the pro-separatist narratives of leaders like Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti,Kl Tariq Kara and others raises serious concerns. If these leaders refuse to acknowledge that Kashmiri Pandits were subjected to genocide, then their position is no different from that of the BJP, which, despite its promises, has done little to change the ground reality. Political gimmicks cannot replace historical truth or real justice.
Kashmiri Pandits will not allow their future to be decided by politicians, bureaucrats, or separatists. The decision of return belongs solely to the community, which has the absolute right to determine when, where, and how it will happen. The Kashmiri Pandits have suffered for thirty-five years in exile, and any conversation about their rehabilitation must recognize this pain, loss, and betrayal. The Government of India must understand that a scattered or symbolic return will not be acceptable. It must be structured, secure, and permanent, ensuring safety, dignity, and political empowerment. This can only be achieved through a well-planned single-location settlement within Kashmir, where the community can live together with full security and institutional support, along with constitutional and legal safeguards to prevent any future displacement or political marginalization. Comprehensive infrastructure development, employment opportunities, and educational institutions must be ensured to restore the dignity of this exiled community.
The responsibility now lies with the Central Government to take urgent and decisive steps to initiate direct discussions with the legitimate leadership of the Kashmiri Pandit community and formulate a concrete, time-bound rehabilitation policy. The era of deception and temporary relief measures has passed. The community has suffered enough betrayal and will no longer accept empty rhetoric.
The Kashmiri Pandit community has completely lost faith in Kashmir-centric political parties such as the National Conference, PDP, and Congress, besides Hurriyat which have consistently acted against its interests. These parties have played a key role in the systematic exclusion of Pandits from the sociopolitical fabric of Kashmir. They have severed their roots, crushed their identity, and worked tirelessly to erase them from history. Their hypocrisy in shedding crocodile tears for Pandits while actively ensuring their marginalization is unacceptable. There policies and activities have robbed the community of its land, homes, and businesses while ensuring that it remains politically, economically, and socially weak ,and became silent spectators to KP,s killings, massacres, loot and arson . Their desperate attempts to exploit Kashmiri Pandits for political mileage must be exposed and rejected outright.
The Government of India must now make a choice—justice or political appeasement, action or empty promises, truth or manipulation. Kashmiri Pandits will no longer tolerate hollow slogans and deceptive politics. The demand is clear and non-negotiable: justice, security, and a permanent, guaranteed return and rehabilitation with full rights and dignity consolidatedly at one place at the land of Kashyap in Kashmir valley, anything less is unacceptable.
