ACB Registers Case Against Patwari for Amassing Disproportionate Assets

Srinagar, CNI :-The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Jammu and Kashmir has registered a case against a revenue department official, Mohd Ayoub Khan, Patwari by rank, following revelations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The action was initiated after a complaint was received alleging that Ayoub Khan, son of Gulsheer Khan, a resident of Doniwari Lolab in Kupwara district, was living a lavish lifestyle, owning multiple residential properties, extensive agricultural lands, and several vehicles, while also reportedly spending exorbitant amounts on his children’s professional education, including admission into an MBBS program abroad.
Subsequent discreet verification by the ACB unearthed substantial evidence suggesting accumulation of wealth far beyond his legitimate income during the check period. The verification revealed that the accused:Purchased land and constructed a double-storey house in Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina, Srinagar.
Constructed another double-storey residential property in his native village, Doniwari Lolab, Kupwara.
Acquired a Hyundai Venue car and a two-wheeler.Incurred heavy expenditure on repayment of various bank loans.Funded the education of his children, including MBBS studies abroad and admission to a nursing college in Amritsar.In an apparent attempt to mask the illicit origin of his assets and mislead investigators, the suspect allegedly took out loans worth nearly ₹75 lakh shortly after the complaint was filed.Taking cognizance of the findings, the ACB registered FIR No. 03/2025 under Section 5(1)(e) read with Section 5(2) of the Jammu & Kashmir Prevention of Corruption Act, Svt. 2006 at the Anti-Corruption Bureau Police Station in Baramulla on 16 June 2025.
Following the FIR, search warrants were obtained from the Hon’ble Anti-Corruption Court Baramulla. Raids were conducted at multiple locations associated with the accused, leading to the recovery of significant incriminating material, including purchase receipts for gold items, high-end gadgets such as iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, and other evidence relevant to the ongoing investigation.
All search and seizure operations were carried out in the presence of magistrates and independent witnesses, adhering strictly to the legal procedures.CNI)
