Ganderbal Court Convicts Man in 2017 Rape Case, Sentences Him to 10 Years RI

Ganderbal, CNI- In a significant development in a long-pending rape case, the Hon’ble Principal District and Sessions Court Ganderbal has convicted Ghulam Mohammad Lone, son of Abdul Samad Lone, a resident of Pethpora Chattergul, for the offence of rape. The conviction comes in connection with FIR No. 27/2017 registered under Sections 376 and 451 of the Ranbir Penal Code at Police Station Kangan.
The court sentenced the accused to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,00,000.
The case dates back to April 13, 2017, when a woman from the same locality lodged a complaint alleging that the accused forcibly entered her house and raped her, resulting in an unwanted pregnancy. Following a detailed investigation and trial, the court found the accused guilty based on substantial evidence and witness testimonies.
The prosecution was effectively represented by Public Prosecutor Shafat Ahmad, who argued the case on behalf of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police and legal authorities hailed the verdict as a testament to the judicial system’s resolve to deliver justice in cases involving violence against women. The Ganderbal Police reiterated their commitment to upholding the law and protecting the rights and dignity of women in the area. (CNI)
