Srinagar, July 14: A political clash broke out online after Member of Parliament and National Conference leader Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi hit back at former minister Imran Ansari for praising Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
Imran Ansari had posted on social media, saying that Ayatollah Khamenei should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize because of his efforts for global and Middle East peace. He wrote, “We the Muslims of India wish for His Eminence Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.”
But Ruhullah didn’t agree. He replied strongly, reminding Ansari that the same Ayatollah had given a religious ruling (fatwa) saying it is wrong (haram) to insult Sunni beliefs or leaders. “If you truly admire him, then follow his teachings. Stop doing what he has declared forbidden. And stop using religion for your own benefit,” Ruhullah said.
The exchange quickly gained attention online, with many reacting to the heated political and religious remarks.
