Srinagar: Two minor children were killed and another injured after a tractor hit them in Taad village of Tangdhar area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday, officials said.
According to officials, the accident involved a tractor bearing registration number JK09B4871, which was being driven by Azhar Ahmad Mughul, son of Mohammad Rafiq Mughul, a local inhabitant of Taad. The incident occurred at Qureshi Mohalla in Taad, where three children were struck by the vehicle.
The deceased children were identified as Aliya Bashir, daughter of Bashir Ahmad Qureshi, aged about eight years, and Azlan Sajad, son of Sajad Ahmad Qureshi, aged about seven years, both inhabitants of Taad. A third child, Shaizan Muneer, son of Muneer Ahmad, was seriously injured in the incident.
Officials said the injured child was immediately shifted along with the others to Sub District Hospital Tangdhar for treatment. However, doctors at the hospital declared Aliya Bashir and Azlan Sajad as brought dead, while the injured child was admitted for medical care.
The incident has triggered shock and grief among locals, with inhabitants of the area expressing anguish over the tragic loss of young lives. Police have taken cognizance of the matter and initiated further proceedings to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
