Srinagar cni:- CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami, on Monday expressed strong opposition to what he described as the profiling of mosques in Kashmir, stating that such actions are unwarranted and only deepen the prevailing sense of discontent among the people.
In a post on social media platform X, Tarigami said that authorities must refrain from targeting or attempting to control places of worship belonging to any specific community. He emphasized that such measures amount to direct interference in religious affairs and go against the principles of democratic governance and constitutional guarantees.
“Profiling mosques only adds another layer to the existing alienation and mistrust,” Tarigami said, warning that actions perceived as selective or discriminatory could further strain the fragile social fabric of the region.
The CPI(M) leader urged the administration to respect religious freedom and ensure that places of worship remain free from unnecessary surveillance or control. He reiterated that safeguarding constitutional rights and maintaining communal harmony should remain the top priority of the authorities.cni
