Handwara: CNI NEWS Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party State Spokesperson Ishrat Bhat, along with Matina Jilani, visited various areas of the Handwara constituency to meet local residents and understand the issues confronting them.

Bhat and Matina first visited Braripora, where residents apprised them of the shortage of drinking water and other basic amenities. The residents expressed concern that despite facing the problem for a considerable period, their demand for a reliable water supply has not been adequately addressed.

The delegation then visited Nagarnar a remote and neglected area of the constituency, where residents—particularly women—shared their concerns about the lack of basic infrastructure and connectivity.

Bhat said she was deeply concerned to see that people in parts of Handwara continue to live without proper mobile network connectivity in the 21st century. Residents told her that the absence of network connectivity creates serious difficulties in communication, education, employment, emergencies and accessing essential services.

“The situation we witnessed in Nagarnar was deeply distressing. Women were expressing their pain and frustration and saying that they feel completely cut off from the outside world. In the 21st century, it is unacceptable that people still have to struggle for something as basic as mobile connectivity,” Bhat said.

She also highlighted the concerns of educated girls and young women in the area, who, according to residents, have no dedicated centre or proper support system for skill development, career guidance, employment opportunities or other avenues of empowerment.

“Educated young women are an important strength of our society, but if they have no access to skill centres, career guidance or employment opportunities, their potential is being wasted. The government must ensure that girls and youth in remote areas receive the same opportunities as those living in towns,” she said. CNI NEWS
