Kargil, CNI NEWS The Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) has extended full support to a 15-day Kargil-Leh Peace and Justice March scheduled to begin from Kargil on

September 10 and culminate in Leh on September 24.The foot march is being organized by the Socialist Party (India), along with civil society and political organisations, to press for full statehood for Ladakh, inclusion of the Union Territory under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and justice for those who died during the September 24, 2025 protests in

Leh.The KDA announced its support following a meeting of its leadership and stakeholders in Kargil. KDA Co-Chairmen Asgar Ali Karbalai and Sajjad Kargili attended the meeting, which was also joined by Ladakh MP Haji Mohammad Hanifa Jan and other representatives.The march is expected to cover the route from Kargil towards Leh over 15 days, with the KDA coordinating the initial stretch up to Haniskot and the Leh Apex Body taking responsibility for coordination from Haniskot onwards.The organizers have said the march will conclude in Leh on September 24 with a candlelight vigil to remember the four people who died during the protests in Leh on September 24 last year.

KDA Co-Chairman Asgar Ali Karbalai said the alliance would continue to pursue the constitutional and democratic rights of the people of Ladakh through peaceful means.KDA Co-Chairman and march convenor Sajjad Kargili is scheduled to lead the march along with social activist Sandeep Pandey, with regular briefings planned during the journey.The KDA has appealed to people across Ladakh to participate in the march irrespective of their region, religion, sect, language, gender or

age, describing the programme as a collective democratic effort concerning the future of the region.The development comes as the KDA and Leh Apex Body continue their engagement with the Centre over Ladakh’s long-standing demands. According to the KDA, recent discussions with the Ministry of Home Affairs have seen movement on issues concerning legislative, executive and

financial powers and constitutional safeguards, although the alliance maintains that substantive progress is still required on statehood, Sixth Schedule protection and accountability for the September 24, 2025 deaths.The Kargil-Leh march is therefore set to place those demands back in the public domain ahead of the first anniversary of last year’s protests. CNI NEWS
