Teacher’s Day is celebrated in India on September 5th because it marks the birth anniversary of our country’s second President, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a dedicated teacher by profession and a great, illustrious educator. In 1962, when he became the President of India, some of his friends and former students wanted to celebrate his birthday on September 5th.

However, when they approached him with this request, Dr. Radhakrishnan stated that instead of celebrating his birthday individually, it would be a matter of great pride for him if September 5th were observed as Teacher’s Day to honor all teachers across India. Dr. Radhakrishnan firmly believed that the country’s best minds should become teachers, as educators shape society and mold the future of children. CNI NEWS
