Srinagar CNI NEWS: The first-ever International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir commenced in Srinagar on Monday, marking a significant milestone for the Union Territory’s growing cultural and creative landscape. The four-day festival will continue from September 7 to 10, bringing a diverse selection of films from India and across the world to audiences in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to News agency National News bureau speaking in Srinagar, J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo said the festival has received an overwhelming international response, with filmmakers and participants from 80 countries submitting more than 1,100 entries for screening.Chief Secretary Dulloo said that after a detailed screening and selection process, 135 entries were shortlisted for presentation during the four-day festival, taking into account the quality of submissions as well as the limited screening time available.
The selected films represent a wide range of cinematic works and provide audiences in Jammu and Kashmir an opportunity to experience diverse storytelling and filmmaking traditions from different parts of the world.Of the 135 shortlisted entries, more than 60 are foreign films, offering local audiences a chance to watch international cinema and gain exposure to different cultures, perspectives and filmmaking approaches.
The participation of filmmakers from across the globe is expected to add an international dimension to the festival and further enhance Jammu and Kashmir’s presence on the global cultural map.The four-day event is aimed at providing a platform for filmmakers, artists, cinema enthusiasts and audiences to engage with a wide variety of cinematic works.
The international participation is also expected to encourage cultural exchange and create opportunities for greater interaction between local talent and filmmakers from different countries.The launch of the festival marks an important step towards establishing Jammu and Kashmir as a destination for cinematic, artistic and cultural events, while providing audiences with access to a broader spectrum of world cinema.The festival will continue through September 10, with the shortlisted films being screened for audiences over the four days.
