Raja bilal cniSrinagar, (CNI NEWS): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu and Kashmir has apprehended a Deputy Director of Agriculture Law Enforcement and an alleged intermediary in Srinagar for purportedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 from a seed
dealer.According to an ACB spokesperson, the bureau received a written complaint alleging that Naseer Ahmad Khan, Deputy Director Agriculture Law Enforcement, had sought a bribe of ₹2 lakh from a seed dealer in exchange for permitting him to sell plant seeds at his establishment.The complainant had allegedly paid ₹1 lakh under pressure, while the remaining amount was agreed to be paid in two instalments of ₹50,000 each. Unwilling to make any further payment, the complainant approached the ACB and sought legal intervention.Following verification of the allegations, the ACB stated that the complaint prima facie established a demand for illegal
gratification. Subsequently, FIR No. 16/2026 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).On September 30, the ACB constituted a trap team to apprehend the accused. During the operation, Khan, along with his alleged tout Mohd Owais Bhat, a resident of Qamarwari, was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹50,000 from the complainant.Both individuals were arrested at the spot, while the alleged bribe amount was recovered from their possession. They were subsequently subjected to medico-legal formalities and lodged at Police Station Shaheed Gunj, Srinagar, for safe custody.The ACB said that further investigation into the matter is underway.
