Srinagar: Former Deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran on Sunday urged the government to release Awami Itihad Party (AIP) chairman Er. Rashid, who is currently detained in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

He claimed that recent events, such as the releases of Mushtaq Ahmad Veeri, Abdul Rashid Dawoodi, and Mirwaiz Maulvi Dr. Umer Farooq, have given many people hope and optimism. He said that in light of these recent events, it is humbly requested that Er. Rashid be released because his detention has not only worsened his health but also caused distress among his family, well-wishers, coworkers, and others.

He added that the people of J&K think that pardoning Er. Rashid and enabling him to re-join his family, friends, and coworkers would be a positive move.

‎”Er. Rashid has a track record of contributing positively to our society, and his release would not only reunite a family but also send a message of goodwill and reconciliation. ‎I firmly believe that the principles of justice and humanity that our nation upholds should be extended to all individuals, irrespective of their background or beliefs,” he said in a statement.
