Hit and Run Case : Accused Arrested by District Police Kulgam

A hit-and-run case has been effectively resolved by District Police Kulgam by locating the suspect who committed the offence.

According to a representative, on September 22, 2023, at around 6:23 AM, a tragic event took place next to the Qazigund walnut factory. A Maruti Eeco with the licence plate JK06B-0901 collided with an unknown truck when it was travelling to Banihal. In an effort to hide their identities and the truck itself, the truck’s driver sped away from the site.

The Maruti Eeco driver and six other passengers suffered significant injuries in the incident, and they were all immediately taken to Emergency Hospital Qazigund before being transferred to GMC Anantnag for additional care.

Tragically, four of the injured people died as a result of their wounds.
An investigation followed after a case was reported at Police Station Qazigund with FIR number 206/2023.

The investigation team worked carefully to compile evidence from different sources, including CCTV video, toll plazas, and telecom services to identify and catch the driver who committed the crime. The squad was directed by SHO Police station Qazigund and was closely supervised by SSP Kulgam. After putting in a lot of effort, the police squad was able to locate the vehicle with the licence plate JK22-7103 and apprehend the accused driver, Aarif Ahmad Ellahi, the son of Ghulam Rasool Ellahi and a resident of Nowgam Verinag, Anantnag.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing as the authorities try to gather more information.
