Srinagar, July 7: The annual Amarnath Yatra is witnessing a massive turnout this year, with nearly 48,000 devotees performing the holy pilgrimage in just the last three days. Tight security arrangements and smooth logistics have ensured a safe and steady flow of pilgrims.

Officials said that more than 21,000 pilgrims had ‘darshan’ at the sacred Amarnath cave shrine on Saturday alone. On Sunday morning, another fresh batch of 7,208 pilgrims left Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar base camp for Kashmir. The pilgrims were sent in two escorted convoys — one headed to the Baltal base camp in North Kashmir and the other to the Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp in South Kashmir.

According to officials from the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), which manages the entire pilgrimage, not all pilgrims are going through the Jammu base camp. A large number of devotees are also directly arriving at the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps, where they are registering on the spot to join the Yatra.

The Yatra, which is considered one of the toughest and holiest pilgrimages in India, continues to attract thousands of pilgrims each day from across the country. With more batches preparing to depart, the number of devotees is expected to rise sharply in the coming days.
