Jammu: As Jammu and Kashmir marks the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A, BJP spokesperson and senior leader Dr Tahir Chowdhary has hailed August 5, 2019, as a historic turning point that changed the region’s political, social, and economic
trajectory.Dr Chowdhary said that for decades, Article 370 and 35A created a wall of separation between J&K and the rest of India.
These provisions not only restricted outside investment and industrial growth but also kept several progressive laws and benefits from reaching the people of the state. According to him, this constitutional framework slowed development, discouraged business opportunities, and
contributed to alienation.“The decision of August 5 was more than a constitutional change — it was a promise of equality, justice, and dignity for every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir,” Dr Chowdhary said. He emphasised that the move integrated J&K fully into the national mainstream, making every central law applicable and ensuring that the same rights enjoyed in other parts of
India are now guaranteed to the people of the region. He highlighted that the reorganisation of the former state into two Union Territories — Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh — has ensured more direct governance, better monitoring of development works, and faster execution of projects. “The change has brought the
administration closer to the people, improved efficiency, and created a system that is more accountable,” he added.Dr Chowdhary pointed to the growth in grassroots democracy over the last four years, with Panchayat and Block Development Council elections empowering local communities. “People now have a greater say in the decisions that affect their daily lives. This is true democracy in action,” he said.He also noted that since 2019, the region has seen new investments in infrastructure, healthcare, tourism, education, and industry.
Improved roads, expanded welfare schemes, and better connectivity are visible outcomes, he said, which are helping transform the socio-economic landscape.Calling August 5 a symbol of “One Nation, One Constitution,” Dr Chowdhary said the day stands for unity, national integration, and the belief that no citizen should be denied equal opportunity based on where they live.
He expressed optimism that under the leadership of the Prime Minister and the BJP, Jammu and Kashmir will continue to move towards peace, stability, and prosperity.“This is a day to remember not only as a political milestone but as a moment when hope was rekindled and a new era began for the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he concluded.
