The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday launched a sharp attack on the ruling National Conference (NC), alleging serious internal dissent within the party and accusing the Omar Abdullah-led government of failing to address the basic concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.J&K BJP Spokespersons Dr. Tahir Choudhary, and Zorawar Singh Jamwal, accompanied by Media Incharge Dr. Pardeep Mahotra were addressing a press conference at party headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.Dr Tahir Chowdhary, while addressing the media persons, claimed that the National Conference is witnessing unprecedented internal unrest, with a large section of its senior leadership unhappy with the Chief Minister’s style of functioning and policy decisions. Dr Chowdhary alleged that NC has effectively turned into a family-run political outfit, where leadership and power continue to revolve around the Abdullah family. According to him, senior leaders and grassroots workers who built the party over decades now see no future for themselves. “The leadership that strengthened the National Conference across Jammu and Kashmir has been sidelined, while decision-making remains restricted to a select few,” he said.He claimed that dissatisfaction within the party has reached a point where nearly 80 per cent of NC leaders are unhappy with Omar Abdullah’s working style. Dr Chowdhary argued that this internal power struggle is directly affecting governance, resulting in neglect of public issues, especially those concerning youth, women, poor families and marginalised sections.“The people of Jammu and Kashmir voted with expectations based on tall promises made in the manifesto. Today, those promises remain unfulfilled. Instead of focusing on governance, the ruling party is busy blaming each other,” he alleged, adding that ordinary citizens are paying the price for what he termed as “family-centric politics”.Zorawar Singh Jamwal, in his address, said open criticism of the Chief Minister’s policies by NC’s own MPs and senior leaders clearly indicated that the ruling party itself was unconvinced about its governance model. He said that when elected representatives of the same party publicly express dissatisfaction, it raises serious questions about the credibility and direction of the government.Jamwal alleged that the policies and programmes of the Omar Abdullah government were disconnected from ground realities and were proving to be anti-poor. He said the BJP, despite being in opposition, has repeatedly stated that it would support any initiative genuinely aimed at the welfare of people across regions, including Jammu, Kashmir and the hilly areas. He further said that instead of addressing issues related to employment, development and social welfare, the government has allowed confusion and unrest to grow within its own ranks. “A government that cannot maintain unity within its party cannot deliver stability and progress to the people,” Jamwal remarked.Responding to queries on recent protests and student-related issues, BJP leaders said matters involving education and medical admissions should not be politicised. The BJP leaders urged the National Conference leadership to clarify its internal position before the public and refocus on governance. They warned that continued infighting and lack of transparency could further erode public trust and worsen the already fragile political and administrative situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
