New Delhi, July 19: The BJP has sharply criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for backing his brother-in-law Robert Vadra and Priyanka Gandhi amid fresh allegations. BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi accused the Gandhi family of misusing their positions to protect each other in corruption cases.
This comes after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a charge sheet against Vadra over a 3.53-acre land deal in Gurugram from 2008, calling the finances suspicious. The ED has also attached 43 properties worth over ₹37 crore belonging to Vadra and his companies. Vadra’s team dismissed the case as a “political witch hunt.”
Rahul Gandhi responded on Friday, saying the BJP government is targeting his family unfairly. “We will face this with dignity. The truth will win,” he posted.
The BJP wasn’t having it. “Rahul Gandhi is using his official post to defend his family’s wrongdoings. The entire family rallies together when one of them is accused,” said Trivedi. He also took a swipe at the family’s alleged land deals, claiming they grabbed farmers’ land while dividing the country along caste and region lines.
Priyanka Gandhi also came to the defense of Bhupesh Baghel’s son, Chaitanya Baghel, who was arrested in a money laundering case linked to a liquor policy. She alleged that the arrest was timed to stop Baghel from speaking in the assembly against environmental violations tied to Adani group projects.
Chaitanya Baghel was arrested from his home in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, and is in ED custody until July 22. ED claims he received ₹16.70 crore in illegal money through companies like Saheli Jewellers. ₹4.5 crore of this money is still unpaid and interest-free, which ED suspects was used to launder black money.
