A social media post claiming that “Kashmir is part of Pakistan” and “Taiwan is part of China” has sparked outrage online but Iran has now officially said, it didn’t come from them.
The Iranian Embassy in New Delhi issued a clear statement saying that the account behind the post is fake and has nothing to do with the Iranian government. “Some fake channels, under the name of Iran, are attempting to damage Iran-India relations. This account does not belong to Iran,” the embassy stated.
The controversial post was shared by a handle called ‘Daily Iran News’ on platform X (formerly Twitter), which has nearly 4 lakh followers. The account has been known to post bold and often provocative opinions on global politics.
On Friday, it stirred a storm by tweeting: “Taiwan is part of China & Kashmir is part of Pakistan. Do you agree?”
Reports suggest this and other fake Iran-linked accounts are being run from Pakistan, trying to create tension between India and Iran.
India and Iran, however, share a strong diplomatic relationship. Just last month, Iran opened its airspace to help with India’s evacuation flights during the Iran-Israel crisis. Tehran also reached out to India early after US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
Though Iran’s top leader Ayatollah Khamenei has sometimes commented on Kashmir and the treatment of Muslims in India, Iran has never taken steps that hurt Indian interests. In fact, India is investing heavily in Iran’s Chabahar Port — a key link to Afghanistan and Central Asia.
On Taiwan, Iran’s position is consistent — it supports China and often criticizes the US for promoting Taiwan’s global image.
Bottom line? India and Iran are not letting fake posts get in the way of real friendship.
