FIR filed against Congress candidate in J&K’s Kathua

Jammu, (CNI) An FIR has been registered against Congress candidate Chaudhary Lal Singh under various sections of the IPC for allegedly misbehaving with a police party in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district two days ago. an official said on Thursday.

 

The FIR against Singh was lodged at the Kathua police station on Tuesday following a written complaint by Sub-Inspector Swaran Singh Minhas, In-charge Police Outpost Industrial Estate Kathua, the officer said.

 

He said that four sections of the IPC including Section 353 (obstructing the duty of a public servant by assault or use of criminal force), Section 500 (punishment for defamation), Section 504 (intent to incite breach of peace) Intentional insult from) and Section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) was added to the FIR.

 

Kathua is part of the Udhampur parliamentary constituency which is going to polls in the first phase on Friday to seal the fate of Singh, Union Minister Jitendra Singh and 10 others. In his complaint, the policeman said he was performing official duty along with other officials at Kathua’s Kalibari Chowk on April 16 during an election candidate’s roadshow when he and other posted policemen “defamed” him. with the intention of” started shouting they publicly.

 

“He has deliberately insulted us in public, used unparliamentary language which has brought my reputation and the police institution into disrepute.

 

He has defamed me, criminally intimidated, threatened and breached my statutory duties so, therefore, it is requested that notice be taken in this regard,” the officer said, referring to the FIR.

 

Accordingly, a case has been registered and sub-inspector Sudarshan Kumar has been assigned the investigation, the official said. (CNI)
