Food Safety Department siezes two FBOs, to launch prosecution under Sec-56

Ganderbal, cni: In a swift action against the unhygienic food business operations in the district, the food safety department team led by Food Safety Officer Sheikh Abbas sealed a meat processing unit and a traditional snacks manufacturing unit here today.The FSO Sheikh Abbas accompanied by Assistant Veterinary Surgeon Umer Bashir took cognizance of the unhygienic and hazardous food items being served by them.

Both the establishments were sealed and two enforcement samples were also picked up for analytical purpose. The two FBOs are likely to be prosecuted under Section-56 of the Food Safety and Standards Act-2006 (unhygienic conditions) in the competent court.Moreover 30 kgs of deteriorated chicken was also destroyed.

Pertinently, Food Safety department is vigorously conducting inspections, surprise checks and raids to curb food adulteration and other ill practices after the Zakura incident where 1200 kgs of rotten meat was seized. The videos and photos of the incident went viral on social media and people across Kashmir were seen showing deep concern and dismay over the selfishness of such FBOs. Cni
