Reasi, (CNI) Government Degree College (GDC) Reasi marked International Labour Day with great enthusiasm and fervour through an insightful event organized by the Department of Sociology in collaboration with the Departments of Economics, Environmental Science, Hindi, Psychology, and Urdu. The programme was held under the esteemed patronage of the worthy Principal, Dr. Udhay Bhanu.
The event brought together faculty and students in a spirit of solidarity and respect for the labour force that forms the backbone of society. A series of addresses were delivered by eminent faculty members, each shedding light on the significance, history, and continuing relevance of Labour Day.
Dr. Omar Habib, Prof. Pooja Dheman, Prof. Zaheer Abbas, Prof. Rahil Datta,Prof Anju Devi and Dr. Wajid Zargar eloquently traced the historical origins of Labour Day and highlighted the struggles and achievements of the working class. The talks were enriched with Urdu couplets, quotations, and profound thoughts that resonated deeply with the audience, blending cultural expression with socio-economic perspectives.
The proceedings were conducted by Prof. Arfan Ali, Head of the Urdu Department, who skillfully navigated the event with engaging commentary and meaningful insights. His articulation added depth and coherence to the programme. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ghulam Nabi, acknowledging the efforts of all participants and the significance of the day.
Students were visibly moved by the narratives and poetic expressions shared during the event. Many expressed a renewed appreciation for the contributions of labourers and the importance of upholding dignity and justice in every sphere of work.
