Srinagar, 18 (CNI) Resident doctors at GMC Srinagar have been facing long delays in salaries and unresolved arrears, leading to impending protests as repeated appeals to authorities have yielded little results. .

According to a press statement issued to The Kashmirit, the Resident Doctors Association GMC Srinagar has condemned the delay in disbursement of salaries to senior residents and stipend to post-graduate residents.

“During the last one year, the resident doctors of GMC Srinagar have faced a delay of more than five months in payment of salaries,” said senior residents.

According to the statement, despite diligent efforts to seek clarification on these delays, the management attributed them to alleged lack of funds to increase the seat capacity of the institution. It is evident that in such circumstances, proper distribution of resources should have been a priority.

“The resulting financial stress has forced locals and non-locals alike to contemplate an institutionalized protest, with a three-day ultimatum for salary distribution,” read the press release.

The collective frustration among residents is palpable. Doctors said that despite their ample working hours, they are subjected to delays in performing their legitimate duties and a sense of marginalization.

“Repeated appeals to the PMC and CAO yielded nothing more than false assurances and promises.”

Moreover, the arrears of FY 2023 remain unresolved for resident doctors, making the situation worse.

Given the growing discontent and demoralization among residents, protests are increasingly likely if the disbursement of salaries fails within the next three days. Resident doctors warned that “possible disruption of routine duties by residents could result in considerable hardship for the institution and the patients it cares for.”(CNI)
