Budgam, cni: The Independence Day 2025 was celebrated with full zeal, patriotic fervour, and grandeur across District Budgam today. The district wore a festive look as institutions, public buildings, and streets were decorated in the colours of the Tiranga, resonating with the spirit of unity and national pride.
The main district-level function was held at Sports Stadium Budgam, where the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat (IAS), who was the Chief Guest, hoisted the National Flag and took salute at the ceremonial march-past parade. Contingents from CRPF, J&K Police, IRP, JKAP, JKHG, NCC, and various schools of the district participated, marching in perfect sync to patriotic tunes.
The grand celebration was attended by SSP Budgam Shri Nikhil Borkar, ADC Budgam, ASP Budgam, senior officers from Army and Paramilitary Forces, all District and Sectoral Officers, PRI members, and a large gathering of citizens.
In his address, the DC budgam extended warm greetings to the people of Budgam on the 79th Independence Day of the nation. He paid rich tributes to the martyrs whose supreme sacrifices paved the way for India’s freedom, stating that their courage and selflessness will remain a guiding light for generations to come.
Speaking on the developmental journey of Budgam, the DC highlighted the remarkable progress achieved across all sectors. He said that the district is witnessing historic transformation, with major projects being executed in record time and with uncompromising quality.
Among the key achievements, he mentioned;125-bedded District Hospital Budgam nearing completion, which will significantly upgrade healthcare facilities,100-bedded Critical Care Unit at Reshipora to strengthen emergency medical response.Restoration and revival of heritage sites to preserve Budgam’s cultural identity.Widespread implementation of social welfare schemes, employment generation programmes, and skill development initiatives.Expansion of Poshan Abhiyan, Mid-Day Meals, and distribution of Sehat Cards ensuring inclusive health coverage.Progress in PMAY-U, PMAY-Rural, MGNREGA, JJM, and AMRUT 2.0 projects benefiting urban and rural communities alike.Augmentation of 24×7 electricity supply through buffer stock improvements and provision of HOT lines to CHCs, PHCs, and sub-centres.
The DC reiterated that Budgam is on the path of sustainable and inclusive development, with the administration committed to ensuring that benefits of every government scheme reach the last mile. He appreciated the dedication of officers, field staff, and the active role of the community in supporting these efforts.
Earlier in the day, the DC also hoisted the National Flag at DC residence , DC Office Complex Budgam, where officers and staff joined in the celebrations.
