Separate polling booths for senior citizens, GPS devices on election vehicles
Srinagar (CNI) In an effort to promote maximum voter participation during the upcoming LS elections in Jammu and Kashmir, for senior citizens above 85 years and persons with disabilities above 40 percent. Arrangements have been made for postal voting. The initiative aims to facilitate voting for individuals who may have mobility challenges or other limitations.
According to news agency Current News, India (CNI) Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) PK Paul said in a meeting held here that there will be pink booths for women, booths for disabled people and separate booths for youth everywhere. An attempt has been made to establish a booth. district
Additionally, certain polling stations will have only female polling officers, while others will have exclusively disabled personnel. Additionally, the booths will be manned by youth below 25 years of age who have served the government for at least three years.
“Strong training has been provided to all polling officials, ranging from District Election Officers to Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and police officers, ensuring their readiness for the electoral process”. Training sessions have been conducted in three phases at the district level to equip the personnel with necessary skills and knowledge,” said the CEO.
It was further informed that 86.39 lakh voters including 2.31 lakh new voters at 11,629 polling stations, comprehensive arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful conduct of elections. Notably, 629 new polling centers have been set up to accommodate the growing number of voters. Additionally, measures like provision of reserve Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines have been taken to meet any technical emergency.
Additionally, the possibility of installing GPS devices on election vehicles is being explored, which will enable real-time tracking and monitoring of their movements. “The initiative is aimed at enhancing logistical efficiency and ensuring timely transportation of essential election supplies, including EVM machines.” (CNI)
