New Delhi, CNI: Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Tuesday termed the April 22 Pahalgam attack an

“intelligence failure” and demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah take full responsibility. Speaking during the debate on Operation Sindoor in the Upper House, Kharge launched a sharp critique of the BJP-led government’s security record.Kharge alleged a pattern of repeated lapses since the BJP came to power.

“Uri and Pathankot in 2016, Pulwama in 2019, and now Pahalgam in 2025—each attack exposes a failure of our intelligence and security systems. Who is being held accountable?” he asked. He said it was not Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha who should answer for the security lapse in Pahalgam, but the Union Home Minister himself.

“The LG taking responsibility means little. It is the Home Minister who should step forward, accept responsibility, or resign,” Kharge asserted. In a pointed remark, the Congress president also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence during critical debates. “The Prime Minister finds time to visit Bihar, but not to face the opposition in Parliament. This shows his inability to lead during a national security crisis,” he said. (Cni)
