On the 22nd anniversary of the Nadimarg massacre, the Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) pays solemn tribute to the 24 innocent Kashmiri Pandits who were brutally killed on March 23, 2003. This horrific act of terror is a painful reminder of the atrocities inflicted upon our community. The blood of our martyrs cries for justice, and the Government of India must fulfill its duty to deliver it without further delay.
Kundan Kashmiri, President KPC stated that for 35 years, the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community has endured the pain of forced exile and the indifference of successive governments. Despite our commitment to the nation, our demands for justice, dignity, and a secure return to our homeland remain unaddressed. It is time for the Government of India to take decisive steps to meet its obligations toward our community.
He demand the official recognition of the 1989-90 exodus as genocide under national and international law and the declaration of Kashmiri Pandits as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to ensure our legal protection. Additionally, the return of Kashmiri Pandits must be backed by a concrete and secure rehabilitation policy. KPC calls for the establishment of a safe, exclusive settlement in Kashmir, to be named “Kashyap Bhoomi,” where our community can live with dignity and without fear.
President KPC further stated that th e illegal occupation of Kashmiri Pandit properties and religious sites remains a grave concern. We demand the strict enforcement of the J&K Migrant Immovable Property Act and the creation of fast-track courts to restore these properties to their rightful owners.
The economic distress faced by displaced Kashmiri Pandits cannot be ignored. We demand an immediate increase in the monthly relief amount from ₹3,250 to ₹5,000 per person and special financial assistance for the most vulnerable families. Additionally, we seek a dedicated quota in education and government jobs to secure our youth’s future.
To ensure truth and accountability, we call for the establishment of an independent Truth and Justice Commission to investigate the circumstances of our displacement and prosecute those responsible for the violence against our community.
No decisions regarding the Kashmiri Pandit community should be made without our direct involvement. Our representatives must be included in all government committees and policy-making forums concerning our rehabilitation and welfare.
The Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) remains committed to fighting for the restoration of our rights and rightful place in Kashmir. We urge the Government of India to act now to address our legitimate demands and ensure justice for the Kashmiri Pandit community.
Other KPC leaders and activists also expressed their views in the same manner.
