Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking on the first day of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly’s budget session, Sinha assured that the government is actively engaging with stakeholders to fulfill this long-standing demand.

“The government is committed to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. We will continue to engage with all stakeholders to achieve this goal,” he stated.

Sinha also emphasized the government’s dedication to facilitating the safe return of Kashmiri Pandits and ensuring a secure and supportive environment for them. Additionally, he highlighted the government’s focus on strengthening Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies by conducting timely elections in the Union Territory.

His remarks come at a time of increased political activity in the region, with opposition parties preparing to challenge the government on multiple contentious issues.

The budget session, which commenced with the LG’s address, is expected to witness intense debates. Opposition parties, including the BJP, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the Peoples Conference, are likely to press the government on key matters such as election promises, the abrogation of Article 370, and the ongoing reservation controversy.
