Ganderbal 23 Feb (CNI): Ganderbal Police has seized five 12-bore shotguns which were used for Poaching and hunting of migratory birds, Posing big threat to the migratory birds visiting valley in winter season.
According to news agency Current News of India (CNI), Ganderbal Police initiated a special drive against poachers and early apprehended two poachers who were misusing their licensed weapons which caused huge loss by killing considerable number of aquatic migratory birds.
Reports reaching CNI said that, continuing drive against poachers, Police parties of P/S Kheerbhawani and Police Post Shadipora headed by SHO/DO conducted raids at different locations in Shalbugh and Paribal villages and recovered five no. of 12 bore guns and also booked five persons.
Accordingly, a Case FIR No.11/21 U/S 3/25 IA Act and FIR No. 25/2021 U/S 3/25 IA Act has been registered in Police Station Kheerbhawani and Police Station Ganderbal respectively.
SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmed Poswal warned those poachers who are killing migratory birds whether with licensed or unlicensed weapons,adding that killing of migratory birds,not only threatens certain species but also leads to degradation of ecosystem and livelihood of locals as well.
General public of the area has highly hailed the move of Ganderbal Police against poachers. (CNI)
