Mandi, Poonch CNI:- A major ration distribution scam has been unearthed at the Food Store in Dhara Block of Sathra Tehsil, Mandi, Poonch, sparking public outrage and a high-level inquiry. The issue came to light after local Panchayat members and concerned residents reported severe shortages and alleged irregularities in the ration supply meant for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.

Responding swiftly to the public grievances, Hon’ble MLA Poonch, Mr. Ajaz Jan, conducted a surprise inspection of the food store. During the visit, he discovered shocking evidence of mismanagement and possible fraud. The ration stock, which was officially documented as delivered before May 10, 2025, had in fact arrived only on May 24. The delivery challan was suspiciously backdated to May 10, suggesting a deliberate cover-up attempt.
Further inspection revealed that multiple ration bags labeled as containing 50 kg of food grains were significantly underweight, ranging between 38 to 44 kg. The discrepancy strongly indicates systemic fraud and has raised serious concerns about the welfare of needy families depending on these supplies.

MLA Jan promptly reported the findings to the Minister’s Office, District Development Commissioner (DC) Poonch, Superintendent of Police Poonch, and the Assistant Director of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD), Poonch.

Taking immediate cognizance, DC Poonch, Mr. Vikas Kundal, ordered a formal inquiry and directed the Tehsildar (Magistrate) Mandi and SHO Mandi to take necessary action. A detailed inspection was conducted in the presence of the Magistrate. Following the inspection, the food store was sealed and several underweight ration bags were seized and handed over to Police Station Mandi as evidence.
The inquiry is ongoing, and strict action has been promised against all those found guilty. This development underscores the need for stringent monitoring of public distribution systems to ensure transparency and protect the rights of the most vulnerable sections of society.(CNI)
