Market checking at Lar, fines imposed on offenders

On the directions of DC Ganderbal Jatin Kishore-IAS, a joint team of Food Safety, Revenue, and Police intensified market checking in Lar market on Friday.

The joint checking squad headed by Naib Tehsildar Lar, Food Safety Officer (HQ) Sheikh Abbas, accompanied by the officials of FCSCA, police and revenue department took strict action against violators under food safety and standards and other consumer affairs laws.

During the market checking across Lar market, officials found several meat sellers and other shopkeepers violating food safety norms, leading to a collective fine of Rs 2000 under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act 2006, Rules & Regulations 2011.

The team also seized and destroyed a significant quantity of rotten food and vegetables to prevent their sale in the market.

The authorities emphasized the importance of hygiene and food safety standards, warning shopkeepers against selling expired or substandard food products. They urged traders to comply with the regulations to ensure the health and well-being of the consumers.

General public and local consumers appreciated the market checks and called for regular monitoring to curb the sale of adulterated and unhygienic food items.

Officials assured that such drives would continue to maintain food safety standards in the district.
