Srinagar, , CNI: In response to rising concerns from the nomadic Bakerwal community regarding restrictions on their seasonal movement to highland pastures, Kangan legislator Mian Mehar Ali took up the matter with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri.
Speaking on behalf of the affected groups, the MLA highlighted how the curbs were creating hardships for the nomads who rely on these pastures for grazing their livestock. “Community members have raised serious concerns about being prevented from accessing traditional grazing areas,” Mian Mehar Ali said.
Following his intervention, the Divisional Commissioner immediately instructed the concerned Deputy Commissioners to ensure that the nomads are allowed to move to their designated pastures without interference. The MLA appreciated the swift response, stating, “I am thankful to the Divisional Commissioner for understanding the gravity of the situation and acting promptly to resolve it.”
The seasonal migration to upper meadows is a vital livelihood activity for the Bakerwals, and any disruption can have serious implications on their way of life. (CNI)
