Srinagar, , CNI Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, has called upon the Muslim community to go beyond the traditional role of mosques as prayer spaces, and transform them into active centres for Islamic learning, moral guidance, and community well-being.While laying the
foundation stone for the reconstruction of Masjid Hanfia Boota Shah Sahib at Boota Shah Mohalla in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar, the Mirwaiz urged local residents, particularly the youth, to ensure that mosques remain vibrant not just in architecture but in purpose and
participation.“Building mosques is an act of great reward, but their real essence lies in making them living institutions — places where Islamic teachings are spread, moral values are reinforced, and community issues are addressed,” Mirwaiz said in his address.
He underlined the growing need for youth involvement in mosque affairs, stressing that younger generations must take moral and social responsibility for building an ethically strong society. In a significant observation, Mirwaiz stressed the importance of ensuring dedicated space for women in mosques, acknowledging their role as the pillars of families and key contributors to children’s upbringing.
He noted that women’s presence in mosques, with appropriate arrangements, can further enrich the collective Islamic environment. The local community and the mosque committee warmly welcomed the suggestion and pledged to incorporate facilities for women within the reconstructed mosque complex.
The event was marked by enthusiastic participation from residents, youth, and members of the mosque committee, who assured the Mirwaiz of their full cooperation in completing the project and making it a hub of spiritual and social
development.Appreciating the community’s dedication, Mirwaiz prayed for the swift completion of the reconstruction and hoped that the mosque would serve its true religious and social purpose for generations to come. (CNI)
