Ganderbal | (CNI):
Tension erupted in the Safapora area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday following the alleged murder of a 28-year-old woman, as confirmed by local reports and eyewitness accounts shared with Current News of India (CNI).

Speaking exclusively to CNI, family members and local residents accused a close relative of the deceased of being involved in the crime. The tragic incident led to a massive protest, where people demanded swift justice and a transparent probe.

“She was not just a victim, she was a voice for every woman who deserves dignity,” a protester told Current News of India (CNI) during the demonstration.

The protest was marked not only by grief but by powerful appeals for justice and women’s rights. Community elders and civil society members, while speaking to CNI, emphasized that violence against women is both a legal and moral failure that society can no longer ignore.

“Islam grants women the right to life, safety, and respect — anyone who violates that must face the harshest punishment,” a local cleric said while talking to CNI.

Responding to public pressure, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal reached the protest site and spoke to the aggrieved crowd.

“We have registered an FIR and taken the accused into custody. A fair and thorough investigation is underway,” SSP Poswal told Current News of India (CNI).

After the SSP’s assurance, the protest dispersed peacefully. However, residents, while speaking to CNI, reiterated that justice must not be delayed, especially in crimes involving women.

“This isn’t just about one family. This is about the safety of every daughter in our society,” said a woman protester_CNI
