Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unfurled the national flag at Delhi’s historic Red Fort, addressing the nation on India’s achievements, challenges, and the contributions of citizens, farmers, and armed forces in building a self-reliant India.In the lead-up to Independence Day, several news reports and public speculation
suggested that PM Modi might announce the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood or a special gift for the region. However, no such announcement was made during his address.Speaking on the 79th Independence Day, PM Modi said, “When India gained independence in 1947, possibilities were immense, and challenges equally significant.
Today, I bow to the makers of our Constitution and pay tribute to the role of women in our freedom struggle and in shaping the nation’s founding document.”He added, “Independence Day represents the aspirations of 140 crore citizens. The spirit of unity grows stronger each day, and today, the nation is immersed in the colours of the Tiranga.”PM Modi highlighted the abrogation of Article 370, saying, “By implementing the principle of one nation, one Constitution, we honoured Shyama Prasad Mookherjee’s vision.
Representatives from Panchayats, sports personalities, and other citizens present here represent a miniature India. Technology today connects the Red Fort to every corner of the country.”He praised the armed forces, recalling recent operations: “I salute the bravery of our soldiers. During Operation Sindoor, our forces acted decisively against terrorists who targeted innocent civilians.
India will no longer tolerate threats or blackmail, and our armed forces will respond at a time and manner of their choosing.”Acknowledging recent natural disasters, he said, “India has faced floods, landslides, and cloudbursts. Our condolences are with the affected families, and state and central governments are working together for relief and rehabilitation.”On self-reliance, the Prime Minister remarked, “Our farmers have steered us toward food security and economic independence.
True national pride lies in self-reliance, which forms the foundation of a developed India.”Highlighting technological progress, he said, “India is advancing in semiconductors, energy, solar, hydrogen, and nuclear sectors. By the centenary of independence, we aim to increase nuclear energy capacity tenfold, ensuring energy self-reliance.”
