Srinagar, CNI: PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has expressed concern over reports of the local administration pressuring non-local laborers to leave Jammu and Kashmir following the terrorist attack in Sonamarg that left seven dead.

In a social media post, Mufti acknowledged the understandable panic among the laborers but criticized the move, saying that asking them to leave would only create more difficulties and send a negative message.

She said that such actions could undermine the peaceful and terror-free elections recently witnessed in the region and potentially spark outrage against Kashmiris working and studying in other states.

Mufti urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and ensure the laborers are given sufficient time to make arrangements.

“After the barbaric attack at Sonamarg there are reports that the local admin is pressurising non local labourers to leave the valley immediately. While I understand their obvious sense of panic but asking them to leave in this manner is not a solution. Will only create more difficulties & sends a very bad message to the country. J&K recently witnessed peaceful terror free elections & this knee jerk reaction will only prove otherwise. Might also cause outrage against Kashmiris working & studying in other states. Request Chief Minister Omar Abdullah & LG Manoj Sinha to intervene & at ll
east give them enough time,” Mehbooba said.
