A press conference was organised by “Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) Minority Morcha at party headquarter Trikuta Nagar here today in which party leadership it’s extends gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lieutenant Governor(LG), Manoj Sinha for successfully implementing the “Anand Marriage Act” (AMA) in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The Sikh community of JKUT rejoices as the implementation of AMA fulfills a longstanding demand, which had been delayed due to the constraints of Article 370,” President of Jammu and Kashmir MM Ranjodh Singh Nalwa said. He added that among the crucial issues was the adoption of the Sikh Marriage Act, a significant milestone for the community.

“This progressive step ensures that Sikh marriages in JKUT will now be conducted under this act,” he claimed.

Notably, under the new provisions of this act, a Tehsildar will serve as the registering officer who will have the authority to issue a marriage certificate within 15 days of a marriage ceremony.

Moreover, it is further to be noted that this service will be provided without any fees, addressing a need that had long been unmet due to the constraints of Article 370. The Sikh community has largely welcomed this step of the government.
