Property Tax will be used for Welfare & Better facilities for People, Tax Money deposited in Accounts Will be used only for Development Purposes: SMC Commissioner

Srinagar, 25 February (CNI): Announcing that the property tax will be used for the welfare and better facilities of the people, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir said that the tax will be collected only once in a year, while the Srinagar Municipal Commissioner said that the money deposited in the accounts from the tax will be used only for the development purpose.

According to Current News of India (CNI), while addressing a Press Conference in Srinagar, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir V K Bidhuri along with SMC Commissioner, Athar Amir Khan, Divisional Commissioner VK Bidhuri said that the purpose of implementing property tax is to ensure better facilities for people, he clarified that 1/3 of the population is already exempted from property tax.

Jammu and Kashmir are at the last place in the country where property tax is being levied, property tax is very low unlike other places, property tax will be collected from those whose houses are built more than 1500 square feet and has to be paid only once a year, he added.

He further said that the collected money will be used for the public and this money will remain in the accounts of the corporation and municipal committees only.

Bidhuri added that there was no option but to impose a property tax, which was acceptable to the people as it provided them with better amenities.

On this occasion, SMC Commissioner Athar Amir Khan while talking to media representatives said that the tax collected from the people from April will be used to provide better facilities to the people. Currently, SMC’s income is only ten per cent of its requirement, this will help ensure better services and amenities to the people as the tax cannot be transferred to the central or state government and can only be used for development purposes.
