Jammu, cni: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Monday downplayed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s demand for setting up a National Law University in Jammu, stating that he does not consider it a genuine demand when compared to the pressing issues facing Jammu and Kashmir.Talking to reporters in Jammu after the culmination of the first day of the Assembly session, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the real and important demands of the people include restoration of statehood and restoration of the status of Jammu and Kashmir.He said providing jobs to unemployed youth, making Jammu and Kashmir drug free, extending relief to flood-hit victims, and construction of bunkers in border areas are among the urgent priorities that require immediate attention.The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted the need for relief to families who suffered losses during Operation Sindoor, stating that these issues have a direct bearing on the lives of people and cannot be sidelined.Taking a swipe at the BJP, Choudhary said that those who celebrated after the closure of a college are now demanding a National Law University. “This is not a demand at all,” he said, adding that such issues are being raised to divert attention from core public concerns.He maintained that the government remains focused on addressing livelihood, security, and welfare-related challenges confronting the people of Jammu and Kashmir, rather than engaging in what he termed as politically motivated debates.
