Srinagar, cni: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said that while the ongoing snowfall across parts of Jammu and Kashmir has caused disruptions, it is much needed and will prove beneficial for the Valley in the long run.
Speaking on the snowfall, as per news agency cni CM Omar said that authorities were able to supply only around 100 megawatts of electricity this morning as against the usual 1700 megawatts due to strong winds and prevailing weather conditions. “Our immediate focus is on restoration of power and water supply, and clearing of important roads, which are being opened gradually,” he said.
Omar Abdullah noted that the snowfall is significant, especially as Srinagar had not received snowfall so far this season, even though the airport recorded around four inches. “This snowfall is very important for us as it benefits the Valley during the summer season and also boosts tourism. We can expect more tourists after fresh snowfall in Kashmir,” he added.
The Chief Minister further said that he would be holding a meeting with MLAs later in the day regarding the upcoming Budget. “We have already received suggestions from various stakeholders, and these inputs will be discussed,” he said. Cni
