Sonamarg wild fire, ground fire causes no damage to trees, officials on job: AD FPF

Ganderbal, (CNI )Forest fire caused due to intense heatwave creeped to a large area in Sonamarg forest belt, falling under the Sindh Forest Division’s 63-A Compartment, is being contained by the Forest guards of the Forest Department, Forest protection force officials and men from Soil and Water conservation Department effectively.

A team of FPF on job, headed by Assistant Director FPF, Mohammad Yousuf Magray, also assisted by the officials of the Forest Department have effectively prevented fire to spread further.

“This is a ground fire crept along the carpet with no harm or damage to the precious trees and other infrastructure, most probably due to the intense hot climatic conditions and heat wave”, AD FPF, Magray said.

The officer added that men guarding the forests have been on toes since last night to contain and completely douse off the fire and have so far successfully doused over 90% of the affected area. He said the current weather conditions pose big threat and due to the dry ground surface and direct sunlight with intense heatwave, Forest fires are likely to occur anywhere.(CNI)
