The Sheikh ul Alam High School in Pattan has served as a crucial educational centre for the neighbourhood. This institution has met the community’s educational requirements for thirty years by providing local kids with an affordable education.

However, the school is now threatened with closure, casting a shadow over it. The school, which is located on public property, has been sealed by authorities after being accused of breaking rules.

The Government should have some compassion and reopen the school, the Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) is pleading with the Government. The school got into legal trouble when administrators chose to lock it up without first getting permission from the High Court.

The Supreme Court has made it plain that when educational institutions or hospitals occupy state land, authorities should proceed cautiously and not rush to shutter them shut. The legality of land use for schools is already tangled up in court.

However, according to a PSAJK spokesperson, it appears like nobody got the memo. They claimed that 300 students were left outside in the cold when the building was abruptly sealed off. ” These kids have been severely impacted by the way things happened. They have suffered trauma,” they added.

The situation at the school couldn’t be more dire. “Without proper classrooms, students are sitting on mats on the ground. They’re studying under the blazing sun or even in the rain. They’re surrounded by heaps of trash and clouds of dust. Mothers have to fetch water bottles all day long. Students are frequently falling ill, and there’s no privacy for anyone, not the students, not the teachers,” said G. N. Var, president of PSAJK.

With tuition under Rs. 300, this school is affordable. They consistently have a 100% passing record in high school courses. Doctors, engineers, and other successful people have graduated from the school.

In order to avoid unnecessary red tape, the Association is now pleading with the district administration and the Lieutenant Governor to intervene and reopen the school.
