The Betrayal of Kashmir: Politicians Turned Merchants of Misery: Kundan Kashmiri

Kashmir, once the jewel of India’s crown, stands today as a testament to the ruinous effects of dirty politics and the erosion of moral fiber in governance. What was meant to be a bastion of peace and natural beauty has been systematically ravaged by a cadre of self-serving politicians who have transformed the noble art of governance into a grotesque business enterprise. Their actions have not only tarnished the land but have also shackled its people in chains of neglect and despair.

In the corridors of power in Srinagar and beyond, politics has morphed into a family business, a dynasty-driven engine where sons succeed fathers not in merit or public service but in the cunning manipulation of power. The very essence of democracy, which demands representation and accountability, has been perverted into a farcical theater where elected officials prioritize personal gain over the collective welfare of their constituents.

At the heart of this moral decay lies the grotesque truth: Kashmiri politicians have become merchants of misery, exploiting the region’s strife and suffering for personal enrichment. While the youth of Kashmir languish in unemployment and poverty, the sons and kinsmen of these political elites revel in opulence, their wealth a stark reminder of the wealth inequality that festers beneath the surface.

This betrayal goes beyond mere financial exploitation. It is a betrayal of trust, a betrayal of the sacred duty that every elected official swears to uphold. Instead of working tirelessly to alleviate the plight of their people, these politicians have entrenched themselves in a cycle of corruption and cronyism, where favors are traded like commodities and promises are made only to be broken.

The consequences of their actions are felt daily by every Kashmiri. Basic infrastructure lies in ruins, healthcare and education systems are in shambles, and opportunities for growth and development are systematically stifled. The cries of the people for justice and progress fall on deaf ears, drowned out by the cacophony of political maneuvering and self-interest.

What makes this situation all the more tragic is the deliberate prioritization of personal and political causes over national and people’s causes. Instead of uniting to tackle the pressing issues of unemployment, education, and healthcare, Kashmiri politicians have chosen to sow division and discord, exploiting ethnic and religious fault lines to further their own agendas.

It is time for the people of Kashmir to awaken from this slumber of despair and reclaim their rightful place as masters of their destiny. The first step towards redemption lies in holding these errant politicians accountable for their crimes against the people and against the land itself and replacing transparency in opacity, democracy in mobocrcy, secularism in communism and integrity to division and disunity. .

The road ahead is fraught with challenges, but it is not insurmountable. By demanding accountability, fostering unity, and embracing a vision of progress that transcends petty politics, Kashmir has the potential to once again shine as a beacon of hope and resilience.

In conclusion, the tragedy of Kashmir is not merely the result of external strife or geopolitical maneuvering; it is a tragedy of leadership gone astray, of politicians who have forsaken their duty in pursuit of personal gain. The time has come for a reckoning, for a revolution of values that places the welfare of the people above the ambitions of the few. Only then can Kashmir reclaim its rightful place as paradise on earth, not just in rhetoric but in reality.

This is a call to arms, a call for change, and a call for justice. Let us not allow the sacrifices of generations past and present to be in vain. Let us rise together, with courage and conviction, to build a Kashmir where honesty triumphs over deceit, where integrity reigns supreme, and where the true spirit of democracy prevails.CNI
