Srinagar : As Kashmir braces for moderate to heavy rain and snowfall from February 27th to March 3rd, 2024, Traffic department has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory to ensure the safety of motorists navigating the region’s hilly and icy roads.

Motorists are urged to equip their vehicles with anti-skid chains before venturing onto the valley’s mountainous terrain.

Additionally, only (4X4) vehicles and those with a seating capacity of no more than 10 passengers will be permitted to ply along hilly roads during snowfall or slippery conditions, provided these roads remain open to vehicular traffic.

Commercial passenger operators are reminded to avoid overloading their vehicles, especially in remote and hilly areas, to mitigate the risk of road accidents and associated fatalities.

Authorized chain vendors will be stationed at designated locations to assist motorists in affixing chains to their vehicles. Motorists are advised against roadside parking to prevent unnecessary obstruction of traffic flow and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles along the roads.

The advisory underscores the importance of proactive measures to enhance road safety during adverse weather conditions, emphasizing collaboration between authorities and motorists to minimize risks and facilitate safe travel in the Kashmir Valley.CNI
