Ladakh: By successfully organising the highest international fashion show in the world, Umling-la, the highest motorable road in the world at 19024 feet, set a new record, an official said on Saturday. International models from 14 different nations participated in the fashion show, which was held on Thursday as part of the Vibrant Ladakh festival, according to the official. According to him, the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, and the Union Territory Ladakh Administration jointly coordinated the event with assistance from the Indian Army and the Border Roads Organisation.
The Umling-la fashion show featured foreign models, including two Ladakhi models, and was intended to represent and promote the lively Indian culture extolled in “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and the highly prized GI-tagged Pashmina of Ladakh, all of which are rooted in the region.
According to him, the models’ outfits exhibited products manufactured from pashmina developed in the Changthang district of Ladakh as well as the colour scheme for the spring and summer of 2024.
Tashi Gyalson, chairman and chief executive councillor of LAHDC Leh, praised the world record set at Umling-la at a height of 19024 feet by the historic involvement of ambassadors from about 14 different countries in the first-ever Ladakh International Fashion Runway.
He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the Home Ministry’s decision to permit foreign tourists to remain in Hanle, which made it possible for the models to spend the night there as well.
Gyalson praised the ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ spirit, which was further enhanced during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Buddha Statue at Umling-la as the sands contributed by the foreign models were also combined. Gyalson praised the ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ spirit, which was expressed in the involvement of the international models.
He also complimented the Army and BRO for their outstanding administrative assistance.
