Jammu : A Political Alliances and Electoral Prospects in Kashmir: A Critical Analysis by Kundan Kashmiri Kashmir watcher and ,a victim of dirty Kashmir politics Kundan Kashmiri, a seasoned Kashmir watcher, and victim of dirty Kashmir politics has expressed his views as regards the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) direct and open support for the Apni Party, led by Altaf Bukhari, and the People’s Conference (PC), led by Sajad Lone, in the ongoing Parliamentary elections in Kashmir. He said that this support might backfire, potentially harming these parties’ chances of success due to persistent anger among the Kashmiri Muslim majority towards the BJP. This sentiment remains deeply entrenched, and the voters’ mindset has not shifted and changed, despite economic benefits from tourism and government schemes introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji
The silence of the Kashmiri populace, Kundan Kashmiri notes, should not be mistaken for acceptance or peace. The upcoming state elections are likely to reflect the same resentment, offering little advantage or victory to the BJP or its allies, the Apni Party and PC. This situation could be detrimental to both the BJP and its coalition partners in furure alliance too.
Furthermore, Kundan Kashmiri draws parallels with historical precedents to illustrate his point. He references Sheikh Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah, who were once supported by the Nehru family and subsequently betrayed their commitments, leading to significant turmoil in Kashmir. They are remembered for role for the region’s devastation and the forced exodus of Kashmiri Pandits.
Similarly, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mahabooba Mufti, who received backing from Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Modi Ji, also failed to deliver on their promises. Their tenure was marked by advocacy for Pakistan, attempts to introduce Pakistani currency, and joint administrative authority over Kashmir, all of which contributed to further instability and the displacement of Kashmiri Pandits.
With the BJP now endorsing the Apni Party and PC, Kundan Kashmiri questions whether these parties real suit for alliance in coming State elections, visa -versa ? will remain loyal to their commitments?. Given their familial ties to past separatist movements and their roles in Kashmir’s turbulent history, skepticism abounds. Only time will reveal their true intentions and actions.
As the Parliamentary election results on June 4, 2024, approach, Kundan Kashmiri remains pessimistic about significant positive outcomes. He advises the BJP leadership to reassess their Kashmir strategy post-results. Reflecting on past alliances and their fallout, he underscores the necessity for a cautious and well-considered approach in handling Kashmir’s complex political landscape.CNI
