Pahalgam, CNI :- National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Saturday visited the grieving family of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, the young man who lost his life while heroically protecting tourists during the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. The attack claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.
During his visit to Adil’s residence in Pahalgam, Dr. Abdullah offered condolences and handed over one-month’s basic salary of Altaf Kaloo, the local Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Pahalgam, to Adil’s father, Hyder Shah, as a gesture of support.
Expressing gratitude, Hyder Shah thanked Dr. Abdullah and other leaders for their solidarity during the family’s time of grief.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Dr. Abdullah addressed the region’s growing water and power crises, urging a review of the Indus Water Treaty. “We have been saying it for a long time — the Indus Water Treaty must be reviewed. Despite J&K having vast water resources, our people continue to suffer due to water shortages,” he said.
Dr. Abdullah emphasized that while India must uphold its treaty obligations, Jammu and Kashmir must also have its fair share of water resources. “We are not saying stop the water to Pakistan, but we too have a right. Jammu is facing an immense water crisis. We tried to supply water from Chenab to Jammu, but the World Bank blocked it, citing the Treaty.”
He also highlighted the region’s potential to generate electricity. “Our rivers can generate thousands of megawatts of electricity. Yet we are facing a power crisis. It’s time to rectify these issues,” Dr. Abdullah asserted.(CNI)
