Rio de Janeiro, July 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for a four-day visit where he will attend the 17th BRICS Summit and also go on a state visit to the country.
On his arrival at Galeao International Airport on Saturday evening (local time), PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome.
This visit to Brazil is the fourth stop in his ongoing five-nation tour.
Before leaving for Brazil, PM Modi said India values BRICS as an important platform for cooperation between emerging economies. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:
“Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where I will take part in the BRICS Summit and later go to their capital, Brasília, for a state visit on the invitation of President Lula. Hoping for a productive round of meetings and interactions during this visit.”
PM Modi reached Brazil from Argentina, where he held wide-ranging talks with President Javier Milei. The two leaders agreed to boost trade and increase cooperation in defence, critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, energy, and mining.
Meanwhile, BRICS countries are expected to issue a joint statement criticizing US tariffs, especially those introduced under former President Donald Trump.
